LET IT BE

LET IT BE

When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness,
She is standing right in front of me,
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be... Whisper words of wisdom,
Let it be!

As we discovered in class the other evening, not many people are aware that Paul McCartney wrote this song while strolling along the Canteras prom in Las Palmas  in mid 1967, savoring a Mus de Gofio ice cream cone from the Peña la Vieja ice cream stand near Playa Chica. `(He had actually ordered tutti frutti but this flavor had not reaced the Canary Islands at that stage in time). The sun was blinding hot but all of a sudden, everything went dark and the Mary of Pine (Ntra Sra del Pino) appeared right in front of the wayward Beatle who knew this magic, holy encounter would engender a great song. He shared the basic melody and lyrical ideas with John Lennon once back in Liverpool. Together they fashioned a modern day classic. If it hadn't have been for the generous spirit of Our Lady from Teror, Let it Be would have been a Let Down!
